A science fiction film about wandering through time and the nature of human memory, set after World War III. The movie is composed almost entirely of still images of frozen movements.
On October 2, 1967, one hundred thousand demonstrators gathered in Washington to demand an end to the war in Vietnam. It was the largest protest up to that point. Che Guevara had been killed in Bolivia two weeks earlier, and for many of the protesters, this marked a shift from protest to an attempt to actively stop the "American War Machine." Norman Mailer wrote about it in his book, and Chris Marker, together with documentary filmmaker François Reichenbach, attended the protest and created this short film.
