Ani works as a stripper at a club in Brighton Beach. After an evening with Vanya, a young and energetic client, he offers her a week of parties, entertainment, and travel for a dream sum. The week ends with a wedding, and when his Russian oligarch parents discover this, they send their local representatives to separate the happy couple. Sean Baker continues to explore the relationship between sex, emotion, status, and appreciation. As always, he shows zero judgment toward his characters, shatters prejudices, and takes some sharp, surprising plot turns. These achievements come together in an excellent drama that rightfully won both the Oscar and the Palme d'Or.
