In Israel, the Forbidden Journey, a four-part documentary, director Jean-Pierre Lledo embarks on a quest to understand why he rejected the Jewish world, Judaism, and Israel for 50 years. This is a cinematic essay that goes back-and-forth between the director's life story and Jewish history. Chapter One: Kippur 

The director's uncle left Algeria for Israel in 1961. He was 13 at the time and has not been in contect with the uncle or his family since then. What prevented the Algerian communist Jew from reaching the place for 50 years? Determined to confront his negative prejudices in the face of reality, he arrives in the country accompanied by his daughter. A mysterious and forgotten word, Charbeb (Tisha B'Av), which was often said by his mothe, opens the gateway....
