In Japan, many elderly men and women live and die alone. No one knows they have passed away, and only the stench rising from their homes leads to their discovery. Kodokushi follows a group of men whose job is to clean the apartments of these recently deceased. Alongside them, we follow volunteers trying to find these lonely individuals and prevent the next lonely death. Family, death, and hope in 21st century Japan.
