Annual event dedicated to Israeli-Ethiopian creation
All immigrants face questions of identity regarding the encounter between the new culture and the immigrants' unique cultural world. This experience raises questions about the place of the immigrant's original culture and the absorbing culture. The films screened as part of A Community Through the Lens express the personal experience of filmmakers from the community, and relate to cultural characteristics have left their impression on the experience of the general public.
Gesher multicultural Film Fund in collaboration with the Association of Ethiopian Jews, which works to promote egalitarian policies in Israeli society, The Baron de Hirsch fund, Avi Chai Foundation and the Jerusalem Jewish Film Festival present for the eleventh year a unique event focused on and dedicated to the Ethiopian community in Israel.
The event will feature a screening of Nevsu by Yossi Vassa, Shai Ben Atar, Liat Shavit and 4 short films from Equals Project
Equals Project
The Gesher Foundation and the Baron Hirsch Foundation joined hands in order to promote a special venture of producing four short feature films featuring stories from the life of the Ethiopian community. The project seeks to show an appropriate, in-depth and authentic representation of the community and to promote an intercultural and social dialogue between the various communities in Israel.
Shlomo

Shlomo is an Ethiopian Jewish guy struggling with a past traumatic event. The breakdown of his life and his sense of unworthiness worsen as he becomes unable to handle intimacy with his girlfriend, Sarah. Failing to get the upper hand in a dispute with an African migrant - a former tenant of her apartment, and with his relationship at stake, he realizes that only by facing his fear, he will get a chance to turn things around

Abraham, a 9-year-old immigrant from Ethiopia, teaches himself Russian in order to survive the difficult conditions, and creates a unique bond with Marina, his neighbor who immigrated from Russia.

She is frustrated and impatient, and wants to escape to meet her soldier boyfriend. When she finds a picture of an Ethiopian soldier who was the grandmother's sweetheart, the two discover that they have a lot in common.
