Family patriarch and Holocaust survivor Symcha Zweifler wants to sell his delicatessen empire when suddenly he is confronted with his past in Frankfurt's red light district just after World War II - an acid test for the whole family as long-suppressed conflicts resurface. Things get worse when Symcha's grandson Samuel and his girlfriend Saba are expecting a son. A tragic-comic search for the meaning of life begins, culminating in decisions that will change the lives of everyone involved. Between Frankfurt and Berlin, two cities as vibrant as New York can be, this contemporary tale of a Jewish family tells the story of the inheritance of the family delicatessen between three, soon to be four, generations of Zweiflers. Led by an incredible ensemble cast, the series shows how the past of some and the future of others come to clash, for the greatest joy of the audience.
