Following her divorce and losing her mother, New York journalist Ruth decides to go on a roots trip to Poland - the place her parents immigrated from after surviving the Holocaust. Her guide is her father Edek, but he has different plans for the trip. The more time they spend together, the more they will have to deal with the family and historical past. Treasure, based on a novel by Lily Brett, does find quite a bit of humor in the journey of a father and daughter, but at the center of it is a "story about what happens when those walls grow so tall they threaten to block out our loved ones on the other side, and the difficult process that’s required to dismantle them before it’s too late" (IndieWire).
