Félicité

France, Senegal, Belgium, Germany, Lebanon 2017 | 123 minutes | Lingala | Hebrew, English subtitles

Félicité, an independent and proud woman, is a bar singer in Kinshasa, Congo’s capital. Her life unravels when her son is severely injured in a motorcycle accident. Determined to save him, Félicité sets out to raise money for his treatment. On her journey through the streets of Kinshasa, she encounters worlds of music and dreams, and finds the courage to cross social boundaries. In his fourth film, Alain Gomis – esteemed French director of Senegalese and Guinean descent – weaves “a sensual, sometimes hopeful, sometimes disturbing urban tapestry with threads of image, sound, poetry, and song” (Guy Lodge, Variety).
