Crossed Tracks

Like much of his filmography, Claude Lelouch’s film explores chance encounters that lead to relationships and love affairs. The plot follows a detective-novel author whose books are suspected of being inspired—or authored—by a serial killer who has escaped from jail. Huguette, a hairstylist who recently left her boyfriend and their shared business, meets a very friendly and affable stranger. From there, the experienced Lelouch guides his characters through a skillful dance of twists and turns, revealing his enduring fascination with human nature.
