1976. Three generations meet in the grandmother's summer house after her passing. The gathering gradually leads to tensions and frictions, but nothing crosses the boiling point when time passes slowly and the days are hot. Beneath this measured pace lies a cinematic gem; not a severe drama, but rather a patient observation of family dynamics. The editing cuts the scenes and asks the audience to put the plot movements together; the script steps between different perspectives; and the cinematography is gorgeously bright. The combination of these means forms layers of color and texture in which moments of emotion and insight are hidden. The Garden is a delicate, humane, and heartfelt work.
