Anna is only nine years old when her world turns upside down. It is 1933 and Hitler is about to take power. On the night of the elections, Anna’s family hastily flees Germany, leaving her pink rabbit behind. From now on, Anna encounters life in exile, not speaking the language, not knowing the customs, missing her friends and loved ones. Schooling is difficult, money is short, xenophobia abounds. Yet Anna grows up and learns to take responsibility; when her family must move again, she is certain she can do anything. Academy Award winner Caroline Link (Nowhere in Africa) returns with a moving film about displacement and exile. Based on the novel by Judith Kerr, When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit is a beautiful tribute to a lost childhood.
